Val Tomas is a creator from the suburbs of Illinois. Back at home, they have two lovely cats (Edgeworth and Prudence) and a funny old dog (Mario). And a pair of lovely parents (Beth and Antero). And an older sibling (Vashti) with a very cool spouse (Genna) on the east coast.

Val has been around other creatives since a young age, as their mom works as a graphic designer and their dad went to school for art before changing paths. Val became interested in art at a young age, wishing to be an illustrator in kindergarten. In sixth grade, they found fun in the world of superhero comics, and the rest has been history since deciding to go into comic art in sophomore year of high school.

I would like to stop talking in the third person now, as it always feels too impersonal for my tastes. In my art, I enjoy exploring the themes of identity, escapism, horror (both the everyday and supernatural kind), and mental health. I love to focus on my characters more than anything else, how they act, who they are and what motivates them, how they change and grow and regress-- all of which can be explored how I like in comic storytelling. Aside from comics, I primarily draw original and fan illustrations, with my preferred medium being digital.
